K-LINE’S MERCHANT AND TRAINING SHIP

Among other newly built vessels that joined KLSM (Singapore) fleet was the vessel MV BROOKLYN BRIDGE. It is a 4500TEU Container vessel built at Ulsan Shipyard. The vessel is presently manned by our Japanese Master and Officers and Filipino Crews. It is known to be the K-Line’s training ship as it is specially built to accommodate 42 persons with independent and separate arrangements like additional navigational equipment, lecture rooms, etc., dedicated solely for training and educating purposes. Presently, there are 9 Japanese deck and 4 engine cadets on board with Japanese sailing instructors. Indian and Filipino cadets are scheduled to take their turn of onboard training in October 2010 and onwards. The vessel is on CALCO-C run; trading in Fareast, Japan, and California service, which gives an edge and a great opportunity to cadets to expose themselves and to enhance their knowledge and skills in the professions they have chosen.

NO OBSERVATION AWARD

The Brilliant news has come!

“OASIS RIVER” received no-observation from her Petronas Inspection carried out on 19th April 2010. This is the second award ship since we started the honour system.

The prize was given on 24th May 2010, when the Managing Director, Capt. T. Saito, visited the vessel in person.

SAILING ON BOARD JAMES RIVER BRIDGE

The 5-day sailing experience on board M/V James River Bridge from Singapore to Hong Kong has been an eye-opener and a good learning experience for us. We have enjoyed our stay on board and observed how the Master, being brain of the vessel, commands on the bridge and the how the Chief Engineer, being the heart of the vessel, checks and makes sure that the engine is in tip top condition.

They both ensure that the vessel is not just a safe working place but also a fun and happy place to enjoy after a hard days work! To mention a few that have clinched our experiences, we have seen for ourselves how a ‘tug boat’ operates; small and unstable it may seem but surprisingly, it possesses an enormous power to control a very huge vessel, and we have also witnessed the legendary ‘tool box meeting’; simply put, is akin to our 5 fingers, one’s thumb is the leader to the remaining 4 fingers, onboard similar hierarchy exist. It is firstly held at the bridge by the top 4, including the master, and then being conducted to the crew prior to the day's job. The sole purpose of it is to discuss day’s work plan and to identify the hazards involved.

In a nutshell, this sailing experience is indeed informative and has widened our horizon!

MANHATTAN BRIDGE

At first, we the proud sailors of the MV MANHATTAN BRIDGE bow in honor for being a part of this distinguished web page. As for our floating home, the MANHATTAN BRIDGE, began her glorious journey way back in 1987.

Despite her age she still possesses the same might she began with, that is to say our old lady neither lets us down in meeting all her commercial schedules nor she can ever be held back for not meeting any International Regulations. She has proved that performance can always hurdle over the barrier of age.

We take pride in maintaining her as she has also been generous to us. Presently she is trading in the IEX Service (India-Europe) and well known for reaching always ahead of her schedule. We, the believer of ISM Code highly motivated, working in a ‘NO BLAME’ culture has nourished her with all our honest renderings. With good cooperation between all departments, implementing all company policies honestly and with great support from our managers, KLSM (Singapore), we have seen how an old ship can perform.

Lastly, we take pride being in the family of ‘K’ Line and the rider of our old lady and believe we can see her through the time with the same glory she has always carried, holding the great ‘K’ above all others.
