THE 10TH KLSM SEMINAR, 17 - 18 APRIL 2018

The 10th KLSM Seminar for the Container staff was held on the 17th and 18th April 2018 once again at the at the scenic Pulai Springs Resort, Johor Bahru- Malayasia. Having raised the bar so high in the 9th edition by creating a unique atmosphere of fun and teamwork,it was always going to be a challenge to live up to the expectations of the staff. KLSM did not disappoint and delivered yet another amazing experience for all attendees.

This year the Filipino staff Container fleet joined in the Seminar as well which created the biggest gathering ever in a KLSM event with 4 Nationalities coming together under one roof in true spirit of KLSM culture. Close to 125 staff with their families attended this grand event!

A shower of blessings by the rain Gods, did not dampen the sporty spirit of KLSM .While the Golf enthusiasts made do with a shorter version the cricketers were ingenious enough to come up with a modified mini cricket tournament on the arrival day which set the mood for the gathering. The games were followed by an on- field drinks session to cherish the moments!

Day 1 of the Seminar began with KLSM MD - Capt.Fukuda san’s opening dialogue followed by interesting presentations on Environmental vision, Changing Lifestyles, New Horizons in Training, Incident sharing and Accident review. Capt.Tomaru and Mr. Kase briefed the audience on the newly formed “ONE” operational activities.

Outdoor ‘Team Building Activities’ provided a welcome break from the Classroom discussions. Each team was assigned a set of multiple activities focussed on building co-ordination, teamwork and mutual respect amongst staff of all Nationalities participating in the Seminar.

Day 2 of the Seminar was kept for group interactive sessions and external speakers. While Capt. Sanjeev Soni from IMETA/DNV GL , Mr. Martin Chew from Innospec discussed about “Behaviour Based Safety” the “Challenges in Marine Fuels”. Workshops were held by KLSM staff on ECDIS, Navigation Incidents and Machinery Breakdowns.

The 7 year and 15 year Loyalty awards were given out to the eligible staff by the KLSM Management. Ogawara san – Director K-ENE Tokyo brought the proceedings to a glorious end with his closing speech.

A gala barbecue pool side dinner accompanied by Karaoke and DJ Music was the highlight of the evening which saw our young Bangladesh and Filipino officers take to the floor with gusto and joy.

The measure of success was the smiling faces of all participants and we at KLSM look forward to creating the next event to the best of our efforts.
